Though relations between the US and Ukraine seem to have improved, Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s car crash meeting at the White House still appears to sting.
During an explosive meeting in the White House with Donald Trump and JD Vance, the Ukrainian president was accused of ‘gambling with WWIII‘.
The upshot of the meeting was that Zelenskyy was reportedly asked to leave the White House early, while US aid for Ukraine was suspended, along with intelligence sharing.
While more amicable talks between the two countries in Jeddah has led to aid and intelligence sharing resuming, Zelenskyy has made a sly reference to his treatment in the White House in his latest speech.

The comment stemmed from criticism of Zelenskyy’s understated wardrobe in comparison to his international counterparts during his White House meeting.
A journalist even took a jab at the Ukrainian leader, 47, about his dressed down look for the White House meeting, accusing Zelenskyy of ‘not respecting the dignity’ of the Oval Office.
Rumours even circulated suggesting that Trump was seen ‘slyly winking’ at the reporter, seemingly in a bid to encourage the journalist to rile up Zelenskyy with the put-down.
For context, Zelenskyy was wearing black trousers, boots and a black jumper which was embroidered with the Ukrainian trident – not shorts and flip flops.
He told the journalist that he will wear a ‘costume’ when the war is finished, while hilariously adding: “Maybe something like yours, maybe something better. We will see, maybe something cheaper.”
The criticism of his clothing is like water off a duck’s back for Zelenskyy…which is probably a good thing, considering he’s the man in charge of a war-torn country battling Vladimir Putin.
But people can hardly blame him for having a bit of fun with the saga surrounding his style himself, and making a joke about it when he has the chance.
Take a look at this:
The Ukrainian president couldn’t resist slipping a sarcastic comment into his speech while appearing at an awards ceremony in Kyiv on Sunday (9 March).
Sporting a similar military-style outfit as the one he did in the White House, he congratulated the winners before saying he was ‘grateful to all Ukrainian creators’.
While addressing the crowd, Zelenskyy then joked: “Apologies that I am not wearing a suit.”
Those few words managed to bring the house down, as members of the audience were seen laughing and applauding in the footage.
Zelenskyy even appeared to get something of a standing ovation, as several spectators stood up to clap the leader as he then added: “Glory to Ukraine!”

Despite a rough few weeks, it seems that Zelenskyy and Trump might have finally squashed their beef.
After their meeting in Saudi Arabia, a joint statement between the delegations said that Ukraine had accepted a US proposal for a ceasefire that would last for 30 days and could be extended, and it could be put in place if Russia accepted it as well.
The statement read: “Today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia — under the gracious hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman — the United States and Ukraine took important steps toward restoring durable peace for Ukraine.
“Representatives of both nations praised the bravery of the Ukrainian people in defense of their nation and agreed that now is the time to begin a process toward lasting peace.”

Social media users watching clips of the heated meeting between President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have called a comment made by Vance ’embarrassing’.
On Friday (28 February) Trump, Vance and Zelenskyy met in the Oval Office at The White House where they discussed a minerals deal and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The visit ended up being cut short – with a planned press conference cancelled – shortly after Trump told the Ukrainian president that he was ‘gambling with World War III‘.
Trump could be heard telling the Ukrainian president: “You either make a deal or we are out.
“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.
“We’re trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel, because you’re in no position to dictate that… You’re in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel.
“We’re going to feel very good and very strong.
“You’re not in a very good position, you’ve allowed yourself to be in a bad position… you don’t have the cards right now… you’re gambling with the lives of millions of people.
“You’re gambling with World War III!”

Now, viewers watching online have criticised Vance for an ’embarrassing’ comment made when he was asked by Zelenskyy if he had visited Ukraine.
“Have you ever actually been to Ukraine to see the problems we have?” Zelenskyy asked Vance.
“I’ve been to…. I’ve actually watched and seen the stories, and I know what happens is you bring people, you bring them on a propaganda tour Mr President, do you disagree that you’ve had problems bringing people into your military?”
People were shocked by Vance’s comment, with many making jokes on X.
One person tweeted: “Zelenskyy: ‘Have you ever actually been to Ukraine to see the problems we have?’
“JD Vance: ‘I’ve actually seen and watched the stories.’
“ON F**KING TV?”
And another said: “LOL what a f**king embarrassment.”
While a third added: “That was a ridiculous exchange.”
“This was next level embarrassing, I couldn’t believe it,” said a fourth.
LADbible has reached out to Trump and Vance’s reps for comment.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump later added that Zelenskyy could ‘come back when he is ready for peace’.
“We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure. It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations,” he wrote.
“I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy said on X: “Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people.
“Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has broken his silence following Donald Trump’s decision to stop military aid to Ukraine after their explosive White House argument on Friday (28 February).
The US Government announced the order following a meeting between the President and senior advisors yesterday to discuss the aid and its future.
This followed Trump accusing Zelenskyy of ‘gambling with World War III’ during their heated exchange at the Oval Office, a meeting which the Ukrainian President has now described as ‘regrettable’.
Friday’s meeting took place in front of the media, with the world watching on as the two leaders argued. Keir Starmer then invited the Ukrainian to Downing Street as he said the clash had made him feel ‘uncomfortable’.

And Zelenskyy has now spoken out as he said he would like future ‘cooperation and communication’ with Trump to be ‘constructive’.
Writing on X this afternoon, he said: “None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians.
“My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.
“We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same.
“Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal. We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. And we remember the moment when things changed when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelins. We are grateful for this.”

He continued: “Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive.
“Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees, and I truly hope it will work effectively.”
Stopping military aid to Ukraine, A White House official anonymously revealed to Sky News: “President [Trump] has been clear that he is focused on peace.
“We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that is contributing to a solution.”

President Donald Trump has told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he’s ‘gambling with World War Three’ in an explosive discussion at the White House.
On Friday (28 February), the pair – along with Vice President JD Vance – met in the Oval Office where they discussed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In a clip shared online, Trump can be heard telling Zelenskyy: “You don’t have the cards right now. With us, you start having cards … You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people! You’re gambling with World War III!”
The pair could be seen arguing as a heated discussion escalated.
Trump could be heard telling the Ukrainian president: “You either make a deal or we are out.
“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.

At one point, Vance interjected, asking the Ukrainian president: “In this entire meeting, have you said thank you?
“You went to Pennsylvania and campaigned for the opposition in October, offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who’s trying to save your country.”
Trump added: “Your country is in big trouble. Wait a minute. No, no, you’ve done a lot of talking. Your country is in big trouble.”

The White House has since responded to the exchange, with Trump’s special assistant and communications adviser Margo Martin writing on X: “President Trump and Vice President Vance will always stand for America and those who respect our position in the world. America will never be taken advantage of.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump later added that Zelenskyy could ‘come back when he is ready for peace’.

Donald Trump gave a seven word response when asked if he kicked Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy out of the White House during the televised meeting on Friday (28 February).
The President of the United States, alongside Vice President JD Vance, sat down with Zelenskyy in the Oval Office to discuss the ongoing war in Russia, along with a minerals agreement.
However, it didn’t take long for the encounter to escalate into a heated confrontation, which looks to have damaged US-Ukraine relations.
Tensions boiled over when Vance demanded that Zelenskyy should express gratitude for US’s military support to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy then responded with gratitude, but also highlighted the ongoing challenges his country still faces.
This is when Trump went on to criticise Zelenskyy, something he did a lot during the meeting, warning that Ukraine was ‘gambling with world war three’ without U.S. support.

“You’re not in a good position. You don’t have the cards right now. With us, you start having cards,” he said.
Following the fallout, the 78-year-old was asked if he told Zelenskyy to leave the White House.
“I don’t have to tell you that,” he replied.
“I think you know the answer to that.”
This comes after Sir Keir Starmer told Zelenskyy he has ‘full backing across the United Kingdom’, after the two met in Downing Street on Saturday (1 March).
The two nations have signed a £2.26 billion loan deal for the UK to provide Ukrainian military supplies, which will be repaid using profits from frozen Russian assets.

As cheers could be heard from outside, Sir Keir told the Ukrainian leader: “That is the people of the United Kingdom coming out to demonstrate how much they support you, how much they support Ukraine.”
He added: “We stand with you and Ukraine for as long as it may take.”
Zelensky replied: “I saw a lot of people and I want to thank you, the people of the United Kingdom, [for] such big support from the very beginning of this war.”
After the controversial meeting in the White House, Zelensky has attempted to mend ties with the US.
In a statement, he said: “Despite the tough dialogue, we remain strategic partners. But we need to be honest and direct with each other to truly understand our shared goals.”
Taking to social media, the political leader added: “It’s crucial for us to have President Trump’s support. He wants to end the war, but no-one wants peace more than we do.
“We are the ones living this war in Ukraine. It’s a fight for our freedom, for our very survival.”
