President Donald Trump read a letter he received from Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Congress yesterday (4 March), following the pair’s rather heated meeting recently at the White House.

On February 28, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, 47, met with Trump, 78, and US Vice President JD Vance, 40, at the White House for a joint press conference. They were also meant to sign a rare earth minerals deal.

However, angry scenes ensued, with the US leader claiming Zelenkyy was ‘gambling with World War III’ and the ‘lives of millions of people’ amid Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine.

“You either make a deal or we are out,” Trump claimed. “Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.”

At one point, Vance also remarked that Zelenskyy had not ‘said thank you’ for the ongoing support of the US during the meeting.

Following the heated exchange, the joint press conference was cancelled and the politician was asked to leave the White House.

In the days following, Zelenskyy issued a thank you to US citizens and Trump for their ‘support’ and now, it appears he has sent a letter, stating his country is ready to work with the US.

“Earlier today I received I received an important letter from President Zelenskyy of Ukraine,” Trump began as he addressed a joint session of Congress in Washington on Tuesday (March 4).

“Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible. To bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians, he said.”

Clapping could be heard as the 47th President of the United States continued to read.

“My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.

“We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence.”

The notice continued to say that regarding the agreement on earth minerals – which was also abandoned after the pair’s fiery meeting in the Oval Office – the country is ‘ready’ to sign at ‘any’ convenient time.

Following the reading, Trump praised Zelenskyy for sending him the letter, telling the audience that he ‘appreciated’ the gesture.

The businessman also claimed there had been ‘serious discussions’ with Russia and that he’d received ‘strong signals that they are ready for peace’.

Trump, however, did not stipulate when these alleged talks had taken place, and whether he was involved in them.

“It’s time to end this senseless war. If you want to end wars, you have to talk to both sides,” he added.

Ukraine has not publicly commented on the letter, which was reportedly received early on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the address, Trump claimed his current administration was the ‘most successful in the history of our nation’ before thanking Elon Musk for heading up the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“Thank you Elon, you’re working really hard,” The Daily Mail reports. “He didn’t need this.”

DOGE, which is considered an initiative rather than a legal government office, is tasked with reducing federal spending.

53-year-old Musk has also vowed to give taxpayers money back while cutting the US’ national debt, which currently stands at an eye-watering $36.22 trillion, as per US Treasury Fiscal Data.

Donald Trump issued a damning warning about World War 3 before Zelenskyy argument

The US President previously promised to ‘prevent’ a devastating global conflict unfolding if he resumed office

President Donald Trump’s mention of World War 3 last week has left everyone feeling a bit unnerved.

But it turns out that this isn’t the first time that the 78-year-old has broached the subject, as he made a series of remarks about it way before he came to verbal blows with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The world leaders wrangled over a minerals deal, security guarantees and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last Friday (28 February), making for one of the most shocking meetings in the Oval Office in history.

If you need a reminder of what went down, take a look at this:

In the footage, Trump tells the Ukrainian President, 47, that his country is in ‘a bad position’ and doesn’t ‘have the cards right now’.

“With us, you have the cards,” Trump said. “You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people! You’re gambling with World War III! What you’re doing is very disrespectful to this country.”

Russian figures rallied behind the US commander-in-chief, saying Trump ‘is right’ about Zelenskyy risking an international conflict.

Interestingly, footage of Trump vowing to ‘prevent’ a devastating global war unfolding in September last year has now resurfaced – and in the words of one viewer, it’s ‘aged like spoiled milk’.

Ahead of the presidential elections in November 2024, the Republican was hitting the campaign trail in the hopes of bolstering his support.

Along the way, he made a lot of bold – and controversial – promises about what he would do when he returned to office.

During a speech at a rally in the US state of Georgia in September last year, Trump told the crowd of his plans to play peacemaker across the world.

“I will settle the war in Ukraine and I will end the chaos in the Middle East and I will prevent something that nobody else will be able to do,” he said in the clip. “I will prevent World War III. And you are very close to World War III.

Biden and Kamala got us into this war in Ukraine and now they can’t get us out. They can’t get us out. I watched [Biden] – ‘We will win, we will win’.

“He’s been saying that for three years,” Trump continued. “Every time Zelenskyy comes to the United States, he walks away with $100 billion.

“I think he’s the greatest salesman on Earth. But we’re stuck in that war, unless I’m President. I’ll get it done, I’ll get it negotiated, I’ll get out. We got to get out.”

One person said of Trump’s speech: “Aged like f***ing spoiled milk,” as another added: “The king of chaos is going to do all that? Yeah right.”

And a third wrote: “He’s starting [World War III], not preventing it.”

The evening before he took office on 20 January this year, Trump reiterated these comments at a rally in Washington DC in an almost identical speech.

“I will end the war in Ukraine,” the President said. “I will stop the chaos in the Middle East and I will prevent World War III from happening. And you have no idea how close we are.”

Despite these pledges, it seems that in Trump’s eyes, the world is continuing to teeter even closer to a global conflict.

People have spotted a hidden ‘sign’ that US President Donald Trump made during his fiery exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which caused him to issue a scathing ten-word response to a journalist.

On Friday (February 28), the 47-year-old Ukrainian leader sat down with Trump, 78, and Vice President JD Vance, 40, in the White House’s Oval Office to discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ahead of the meeting, Trump sarcastically remarked that Zelenskyy was ‘all dressed up’, after he attended their talk in a casual outfit.

The politician’s getup became a topic of conversation during the meeting, when Brian Glenn, the chief White House correspondent for the right-wing website Real America’s Voice, questioned why Zelenskyy has failed to wear a suit.

“I will wear a costume when this war is finished,” the father-of-two responded.

“Maybe something like yours. Maybe something better. Maybe something cheaper.”

According to a report by The Daily Mail, a video saw Trump ‘slyly winking’ to Glenn, who was the journalist riling up Zelenskyy.

People are convinced that this was a major sign that Trump, Glenn and Vance may have been in cahoots, with one taking to X to write: “Love these two! Trump winking and JD giving him a pat on the back.

A second typed: “The @realDonaldTrump wink ****Plus, the @JDVance arm pat tells you this was their plan all along. Two bullies. When will the @GOP Senators stand up for the American way of life?”

Someone else remarked that ‘nobody was bothered’ when Elon Musk didn’t wear a suit in the Oval Office, instead choosing to wear black and a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap.

“Reminder that if he’s scared of you Trump will wink at you,” a fourth said.

Following the press conference, which lasted 139 minutes as per CNN, Glenn used his X platform to issue an official response on the debated situation.

“I have extreme empathy for the people of Ukraine and all of those involved in this destructive war,” he began.

“The lives that have been lost are precious and that’s something a country can never get back. The war needs to end.”

The reporter—whose girlfriend is the US representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district—went on to say that he believed Zelenskyy’s outfit reflected his ‘inner disrespect’ for not only America but ‘the President and the US citizens that have made it possible for Ukraine to survive as long as they have to this point’.

“Moments after my exchange with President Zelenskyy, we began to hear a slightly different tone/mood from him when engaging with President Trump and VP JD Vance as his attire in-fact did begin to reflect his overall attitude towards the negotiations,” Glenn continued.

“So yes, you can judge a book by its cover.

“With that said, I pray for an ending to this war and peace in that region.”

According to Sky News, the Ukrainian president was advised by Trump’s team to wear something more formal, but opted to wear all black instead.

A body language expert has revealed what Volodymyr Zelenskyy was communicating with his hand movements during his heated exchange with Donald Trump.

Inbaal Honigman has poured over the footage of the contentious discussion between the world leaders on Friday (28 January), to weigh up what they were really saying through their mannerisms.

We already know that Trump, 78, warned his Ukrainian counterpart he was ‘gambling with World War III‘ and that Zelenskyy’s clothing was a huge topic of conversation in the Oval Office.

But most of us won’t have clocked on to what the 47-year-old leader was trying to convey through his gestures.

Which is where Honigman comes in, as she’s well versed in the language of the body.

Speaking to LADbible on behalf of Oddspedia, the body language boffin explained that she picked up on Zelenskyy making an interesting hand movement as tempers flared.

As he went up against both Trump and Vice President JD Vance – and struggled to get a word in edgeways – Honigman spotted him using a ‘finger purse’ gesture, among other noteworthy movements.

And according to the expert, Zelenskyy was really trying to remain tactful throughout the tense meeting.

“He’s speaking sternly, but his body language is imploring,” Honigman said. “Zelenskyy’s right hand is formed into a ‘thumb fist’, which is a typical diplomatic leader hand gesture.

“Where a fist would be too militant, a fist with a thumb on top of it is viewed as a softer gesture, asking for help rather than telling the USA to help him.

“At the same time, his left hand goes across his body, in a protective gesture, so he’s not feeling very brave while he’s arguing.”

As Zelenskyy verbally sparred against Vance, Honigman said that he opted to use his hands to ‘punctuate his words with his palm turned upwards’, which she explained ‘indicates honesty and openness’.

She continued: “He forms his hand into a ‘finger purse’ which is a gesture of explaining. He wants to make himself understood.”

For those who aren’t aware, this is a hand gesture which involves bringing all your fingers together along with your thumb – or in layman’s terms, it looks like the ‘pinched fingers’ emoji.

Honigman pointed out that Vance took a much fiercer approach with his hand movements in comparison, as the Vice President, 40, ‘pointed directly at’ Zelenskyy.

“This is quite a domineering gesture, like a parent chastising an errant child,” the body language expert said. “World leaders rarely resort to such aggressive gestures, even in disagreements.

“Following that, Zelenskyy folds his arms and looks away. Both of these are blocking gestures – he is done.”

A scheduled news conference between the quarrelling leaders was cancelled in wake of the chaos which unfolded in the Oval Office.

Both Zelenskyy and Trump issued statements on the incident, while UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also broke his silence on the controversy earlier today (2 March).

Honigman also told LADbible about her theories on what Trump really felt about the disastrous meeting in the White House.

Social media users watching clips of the heated meeting between President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have called a comment made by Vance ’embarrassing’.

On Friday (28 February) Trump, Vance and Zelenskyy met in the Oval Office at The White House where they discussed a minerals deal and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The visit ended up being cut short – with a planned press conference cancelled – shortly after Trump told the Ukrainian president that he was ‘gambling with World War III‘.

Trump could be heard telling the Ukrainian president: “You either make a deal or we are out.

“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.

“We’re trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel, because you’re in no position to dictate that… You’re in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel.

“We’re going to feel very good and very strong.

“You’re not in a very good position, you’ve allowed yourself to be in a bad position… you don’t have the cards right now… you’re gambling with the lives of millions of people.

“You’re gambling with World War III!”

Now, viewers watching online have criticised Vance for an ’embarrassing’ comment made when he was asked by Zelenskyy if he had visited Ukraine.

“Have you ever actually been to Ukraine to see the problems we have?” Zelenskyy asked Vance.

“I’ve been to…. I’ve actually watched and seen the stories, and I know what happens is you bring people, you bring them on a propaganda tour Mr President, do you disagree that you’ve had problems bringing people into your military?”

People were shocked by Vance’s comment, with many making jokes on X.

One person tweeted: “Zelenskyy: ‘Have you ever actually been to Ukraine to see the problems we have?’

“JD Vance: ‘I’ve actually seen and watched the stories.’

“ON F**KING TV?”

And another said: “LOL what a f**king embarrassment.”

While a third added: “That was a ridiculous exchange.”

“This was next level embarrassing, I couldn’t believe it,” said a fourth.

LADbible has reached out to Trump and Vance’s reps for comment.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump later added that Zelenskyy could ‘come back when he is ready for peace’.

“We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure. It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations,” he wrote.

“I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy said on X: “Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people.

“Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.”
